Amanita Mushroom Testing and Certificates of Analysis

Mushroom Testing
Amanita Muscaria Image

ACS Laboratory strives to deliver precise test results to our Amanita mushroom clients, ensuring they can offer the highest quality products possible.

Amanita mushrooms are lesser known than the federally-illicit psilocybin-containing varieties. Still, Amanita mushrooms are increasingly popular for their distinct psychoactive effects and unregulated active ingredients. As the interest in Amanita muscaria mushrooms continues to grow, there is a pressing need to quantify their potency and purity accurately. We issue certificates of analysis for all Amanita samples to our clients, helping them prove safety and compliance with the Controlled Substances Act.

We test Amanita mushrooms for purity and potency, including Amanita muscaria and Amanita pantherina. We offer panels that quantify Amanita’s active ingredients, rule out psilocybin presence, and determine safety and purity.

What We Look for in Amanita Potency Tests

Safe, ingestible Amanita products typically contain muscimol only and are free from potentially toxic ibotenic acid, muscarine, and muscazone.

Muscimol
- Muscimol is a psychoactive alkaloid that acts as an agonist of the GABA receptor, resulting in sedative and hallucinogenic effects. Muscimol converts to Ibotenic Acid in the body.

Ibotenic Acid - Ibotenic acid is a psychoactive amino acid that acts as an agonist of the glutamate receptor and in higher amounts can cause neurotoxicity. When mushrooms contain more ibotenic acid than muscimol, users typically report confusion, agitation, and euphoria.

Muscarine - Muscarine is a potentially toxic alkaloid when ingested in high quantities that acts as a nonselective agonist of the acetylcholine receptor, causing symptoms such as sweating, salivation, and blurred vision.

Validating the Results

Our software generates a certificate of analysis (COA) for every Amanita mushroom sample, which is then made available in an online portal with public access. We also provide QR codes linked to the COA for product packaging and blockchain tracking for tamper-proofing and security. Using blockchain technology for tracking and verifying COAs is essential to building consumer trust, ensuring product quality, and preventing fraud in the mushroom industry.
